Texas Bullion Exchange is honored to offer this AMAZING 1857-S $5 Liberty Half Eagle!

This highly lustrous GEM gleams with mint fresh brilliance on both sides accenting the high-end quality surfaces. The strike is razor-sharp, with fully defined devices seen throughout. Even after the recovery of the S.S. Central America, this date remains rare in Mint State condition. The smaller denomination gold coins were likely not stored in the cargo hold, like the larger denomination coins, but in the pockets of passengers and crew. It is interesting to note that the finest known examples of this date sat on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean for nearly 150 years! There were a total of 87,000 $5 Liberty's minted at the San Francisco Mint in 1857. PCGS has only certified 200 total coins across all grades. Out of those 200 coins, 49 were found on the S.S. Central America, and the ONE-AND-ONLY 1857-S $5 Liberty that has been certified as a Proof-Like coin by PCGS or NGC is the coin recently acquired by Texas Bullion Exchange Inc. We would like to wish the new owner a hearty congratulations in advance, you now own a piece of American history from the iconic S.S. Central America.
